- Emily watched her mother slip through the sliding glass door hurriedly, clearly having been wrestling with the growing discomfort of having a nude man's head between her legs. Emily had wondered if Jace's relentless flirting would result in anything happening, as strange as that would be for her to imagine but surmised that it had been just too much for her reserved mother.
- She wasn't even sure how she would feel about her mother entertaining or encouraging another man's advances unbeknownst to her father. She loved her father just as she loved her mother, and the idea of her mother being unfaithful to him had never even been a consideration with how devoted they both were to their family.
- She knew it would be a betrayal and she knew on some level she would resent her mother for doing that to him, but at the same time her curiosity and desire to see her mother let her guard down and reveal the fallibility of her humanity tugged at her consciousness. When she watched Jace follow her into the house a few moments later she considered how persistent he would be to try to make something happen, and what outcome she would ultimately prefer.
